George W. Bush is a fucking idiot. Either that, or a manipulative jerk. His manipulation of the public and his dirty little war have set back the reputation of the United States by 50 years. I won’t say it has irreparably harmed our reputation, because I think this is a great country and we can fix this. But it will be hard.

We will have to convince the world that we think our Constitution means something, and that the treaties we enter into with them mean something. At this point they have cause to think that neither is true. In the waning months of this disastrous administration, it’s time to start thinking about how we can reassert our position of of credible leadership on the important issues of the coming century (Hint: the “terrorists” are not one of those issues. At most, “they” are a manifestation of one of the bigger problems, and will perhaps turn out to be a mole on the ass of history. Like George W).

I expected to be shooting today. I had a narrow window when my studio was available, and had several “maybes” out there. Then my studio partners wanted to use the space for a rehearsal, and, having no confirmed model, I said OK. Of course, a day later one of the “maybes” said she was available. Oh well…another time.

Instead I refilled ink for my photo printer, and now I am off to replace a valve. I suppose this is a fix-it Matt day.

This is Ariel, who posed for me a year or so ago. I couldn’t really give her much direction….she just moved. But I think that is OK.

I spent the last hour upgrading to the 2.x series of b2evolution (the software that runs this blog) and I think I have not broken too much. I still need to figure out how to do links and thumbnails and a few other things (for example, I added a gadget that makes thumbnails. But it made this one way too small. Sorry) But I will get there.

This is Azi. She was one quarter (or less)shy of graduating from art school and said she was going to quit. Then I lost track of her.

I will have a show up, probably early summer, in San Francisco. More details to come…I met with the director of the space, today, and she is quite excited about the material…but she also has to vet with the board and various others. I have not done a real show in quite some time (I did a small group show about 18 months ago. I sold one piece, and then the center director left, and took the proceeds. It took another six months to collect the small proceeds, by which time it was more about the principal than the $$).

I will post some of the likely material soon. In the meantime, enjoy Raelyn Mouse. Even though you can’t see her face. I will post more of her too (one of the most fun, and interesting models I’ve worked with in some time).

Polaroid stopped making film about the same time I stopped shooting film. I used polaroid as a proofing film, but then I discovered polapan instant slide film. I bought a stash of it at a studio’s garage sale (I think the photographer died) and am still hoarding the last few rolls. It gives unpredictable (and therefore sometimes interesting) results. This is Ariel.

There is lots of chatter on model mayhem about flaky models (and flaky photogs), but I have not had many…but then 2 in two weeks, with creative and weird excuses. I’ve decided that for the worst of them (same day cancels, outright lies), I will do my best to be sure that you will not work in this town again.

I’m going to make this short, since I just have this up and running.
