Photographers are the new terrorists
February 22nd, 2009Apparently, the New York subway police never got the memo that Rudy “a noun, a verb, and 9/11″ Giuliani is no longer mayor. Even after the city’s foolish and failed attempt to ban photography in subways, their finest keeps arresting photographers.
There is a peculiar logic at play here, as most schemes to ban photographers only focus on photographers with “pro” equipment. I’m not sure if they think the “th’ trrests” are pretty wealthy, and brazen, or if, just as with so much in our post 9/11 world, it’s simply an excuse to exert more control. This pisses me off in so many ways that I can’t even write a third paragraph.
Sometimes we are all just going in circles. Sarah and Andy, yesterday.
Congratulations NAACP
February 12th, 2009The NAACP turned 100, and on the anniversary of the great organization, took a bold step to oppose discrimination of all kinds. Bravo!
They are way ahead of the boy scouts. (and I added a link to Scouting for All, an organization working to end discrimination in the Scouts).
A satisfied customer
February 2nd, 2009This is a very tough economy. So if you are in any business that relies on your good name, you better be on top of your game. You need to deliver honest value.
So after my fourth or so experience, I have to give a plug to my strobe repair people, Monica and Eloy. They fix my strobes (more often than should be necessary…I have done more than my share of dumb things to them) for a fair price. When they can’t fix it, they keep trying until they figure it out, and then charge me for the last round only. I can’t say enough about them. Theirs is a limited client base–unless you are a pro photographer, you are unlikely to need their services. But they set an example of what all businesses should aspire to. And they seem to make a living at it, and have for the ten years or so that I have known them.
