Eats Shoots and Leaves
November 13th, 2009That’s the name of a fabulous book about punctuation, the lost art of the English language.
Today I came across the blog of unnecessary quotes, which is a quite fabulous companion to the book (unrelated though, AFIK). Love it.

Workshop with Lois Greenfield
July 5th, 2009I will be hosting a workshop with Lois Greenfield on August 22 and 23 (two, one day workshops. We will fill the Saturday class before we open the Sunday slots.). Lois has had a tremendous influence on my shooting style, and is also a great teacher. We will be shooting with her Canon 5DII (and you can bring your own DSLR as well), and we will see it live on screen, so she can provide instant feedback.
Lois openly shares her method, both technical and artistic, and guides the photographer through mastery of the basics of both capturing “the moment” as well as lighting the moving subject in a photographic studio. She also encourages the photographer to explore their own individual style. The passion that fuels her unique and evolving creative process is inspirational.
Edit: Lois has posted more info on her website.

The workshop will be all day, and class size will be limited to ten so that each photographer will have ample time to shoot. Lunch is included.

All the dancers will be clothed, but this is the kind of movement you will learn to capture.
This is a great opportunity!
The class will cost $500 for the day. To register, email Jack at workshop@loisgreenfield.com.

Book
March 29th, 2009I’ve created a nifty little book, titled Shapes, of some of my recent figure and yoga work, and you too can get a copy!
Go to my book (opens in a new window) page, and check it out. Then let me know that you want one.
(Some of the photos in the flip book are simply pictures of the book, so you can see the layout. For the full page images, I pulled the original image into the flip book, so the quality is much better. If you are unsure of any of the photos that are not the full page ones, I can send you a small jpg of the original image)
What is it? It’s 20 pages, all B+W, 8″x8″, either softbound ($25 + tax & shipping) or hardbound ($35 + tax & shipping)
It’s easy…just click here to send me a note, and I will get you details.
I will also post info about another book, soon.

March 15th, 2009Photographers are the new terrorists
February 22nd, 2009Apparently, the New York subway police never got the memo that Rudy “a noun, a verb, and 9/11″ Giuliani is no longer mayor. Even after the city’s foolish and failed attempt to ban photography in subways, their finest keeps arresting photographers.
There is a peculiar logic at play here, as most schemes to ban photographers only focus on photographers with “pro” equipment. I’m not sure if they think the “th’ trrests” are pretty wealthy, and brazen, or if, just as with so much in our post 9/11 world, it’s simply an excuse to exert more control. This pisses me off in so many ways that I can’t even write a third paragraph.
Sometimes we are all just going in circles. Sarah and Andy, yesterday.
